Why Wait A Year Between Trips When You Have These Weekend Stays To Choose From?

As much as we would all love to travel multiple times a year, it can be very expensive. Even one week away can cost a fortune. Going on holiday just once a year is so painful waiting for that departure day to come, we have all witnessed this feeling I am sure. But, it doesn’t need to be that way.

A great way to go on holiday for cheap is going on weekend trips right here in the UK.  There are so many lovely places here and without the cost of flights, you will save so much money. Keep reading to find out about the two-day trips which could transform your travel experiences.

A city stay

Cities are always fantastic for weekend trips. That’s because they offer a wide variety of activities and because there are so many cities to choose from!  London is an obvious one here in the UK. It offers excursions galore, including The Natural History Museum and The London Eye, these are both places I am dying to visit!  I am personally a massive fan of going to a theatre and seeing a show. Whilst in London, you need to visit the Peggy Porschen cake shop and take lots of very Instagram-able photos! Of course, London is so busy. If you don’t fancy that much bustle, why not head somewhere like Cardiff? Set in a stunning Welsh backdrop, this city, too, has plenty to offer. I have been to Wales plenty of times but never Cardiff and I would love to see the Cardiff Castle. You could cut costs even further here by booking up to stay in an Airbnb or a hotel alternative like this Cardiff aparthotel. The options don’t even end there. The UK is full of many fabulous cities.

A country retreat

For those who already live in the city, the idea of a weekend break to another busy place might not be so appealing. But no worried because there’s also a choice of country retreats available. The UK has some fantastic country spots. There’s the Cotswolds with its iconic rolling hills and country cottages. Or, you could head to the New Forest and get stuck in with those wild ponies. If you’re worried about not having much to do, you could even book up at one of the many Center Parcs locations across the country and you will have plenty to do! There are five to choose from, and each is set in stunning countryside locations. You will be able to enjoy the peace while staying busy both days of your trip. Some would say that’s the best of both worlds, and a way to make the most of your staycation. At the very least, a trip like this would tide you over until the next time you could hop on a plane!

Where is your favourite place to go for a weekend trip? Let me know in the comments!

I went to Cardiff last year and it is such a great place with so much to see and do! Although I went when it was raining so I’d love to go back in the summer 🙂 I’ve never been to the Peggy Porschen cake shop but it looks super pretty and so Instagrammable! I’m lucky enough to live just half an hour from The New Forest and it is one of my favourite places to go, I love the countryside it is so peaceful and relaxing. Thanks for sharing Shar, lovely photos! <3 xx

I totally agree. For the last few years, I’ve actually ONLY been on shorter UK breaks! I much prefer them as I like a few shorter breaks throughout the year. I’m not big on cities, I LOVE the country so wherever we go tends to be a bit less built up. We love going to Shropshire on the Severn Valley Railway in the Spring and a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads which are just beautiful! <3

There are so many great ways to get away for the weekend. We found an adorable little bed and breakfast the next town over, out in the middle of nowhere with it’s own little pond, ducks, a porch with a BBQ, etc. What a great way to spend some time relaxing with my husband!

Jake and I always do this! Plan little UK vacations between our abroad trips so we don’t get too sad waiting for them hahaha. We’ve been to London quite a few times and Plymouth and Paignton which were super lovely 🙂 I absolutely love Center Parcs but to be honest, whenever we’ve looked at going just us two, it’s been the same price as a few days in a foreign city so we never end up going! I would really love to go there as a group sometime though so the cost is much smaller!

Traveling can be expensive but they’re worth it! I always love going on weekend trips, don’t need to take time off and it’s cheaper than going to a different country for a week. I’m trying to knock out some cities across the US these next few years. Love that there are a lot of cities to choose from! So far, Boston has been my favorite :).
