⛄Looking after your Fur Babies this Christmas⛄

I know keeping an eye out on your doggies can be harder around Christmas time being so busy, but it is important to make sure they are still being looked after!

For those who aren’t familiar, PuppySpot is a service committed to helping responsible breeders place their puppies with caring individuals and families. No puppy mills included! I recently discovered they are working to spread awareness of dangers towards dogs around Christmas time, so I decided to write a short blog post with some tips!

Puppy Spot have created some brilliant pet safety tips for the Christmas period, as you can see there are many helpful tips on the picture above. I think it is important to remember that a lot of foods are harmful towards dogs, not just chocolate. I had never heard of  Xylitol but after doing some research I have found out it is used a lot as a sugar substitute and in “sugar-free” chewing gums, mints, and other candies so be careful as it is extremely toxic to dogs! Be careful when giving your doggies meat, make sure there isn’t any fatty trimmings or bones.

I love the section on the image called “Stay out of tinsel trouble” because, well dogs are naughty aren’t they? haha! I used to have two cute staffies called Asha and Beau(see pics below) and one Christmas, one of them decided to chew through the bottom of the sack with my presents in and ate the jelly beans out the bottom!  So wait to put out tempting gifts, especially when it contains food because your doggy will sniff them out!

As well as the graphic, I wanted to include some tips I have thought of myself for looking after your fur babies at Christmas:

  • Snow- Whilst walking your dog, make sure you are careful when there is snow or ice on the ground for multiple reasons. There might be sharp or dangerous objects hidden underneath snow that you do not want your dog to step on, or eat! As cute as it is seeing dogs get excited with snow all over their faces, make sure they do not eat any. After a walk, make sure you wipe their paws and get all that cold wet snow out. Be careful in icy weather, you do not want to fall whilst walking your dog.
  • Cold Weather-  If your doggie has got long hair then keep that hair long throughout winter, else they will be cold! If your dog doesn’t mind, buy them a little coat to wear when they go out for a walk. One of my dogs used to have a pink princess coat(she loved it).
  • Decorations- A problem with Christmas decorations can be the baubles on the tree, if one of them bad boys fall off your dog will want to chase it, bite it, lick it and maybe swallow it:( watch out for all choking hazards.
  • Treat ya dogs at Christmas- Your dogs are your family so buy them presents and wrap them up and watch them open them! Literally….we used to do this for my dogs and they loved tearing them up. Only if you can afford it, of course, there are other ways you can treat your doggies at Christmas, lots of extra kisses and cuddles.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, make sure you check out PuppySpot and most importantly, look after your fur babies!

This is such a sweet and thoughtful post 💕. I have two cats and I have to always keep an eye on them when it comes to the Christmas baubles! They think everything on the tree is a toy for them to play with 🙈. Fab post and really helpful too! Thank you for sharing 😘 xx

They\’re called Westpointers – they are rescued dogs from Curaçao. Found without a mom or just dumped aside the rode. They since we don\’t know what the parents were we can\’t know for sure what bread it is I think a bit of everything, one looks a lot like a pointer tho

Aww I love this! My pup always has so much fun at Christmas but it is so important to remember there are health hazards for them. I\’ve bought and wrapped 6 presents for her so she feels just as loved as we all do and I\’m so excited to give her some yummy meat on Christmas day! 🙂 It\’s also important to remember that a dog is for LIFE and not just for Christmas so make sure if you decide to get a dog it\’s for the right reasons 🙂
