Hi guys! I went to Benalmadena, Malaga in Spain with my family and this is a blog post on what I did whilst I was there. Don’t worry I am not going to tell you every single detail of my holiday because that would be boring! I had the best holiday and I have found out that I absolutely LOVE Sangria! Hopefully, you will enjoy reading this and looking at the pictures!
The first thing I noticed when I stepped off the plane was how HOT it was! Going from rainy weather in England to the sun in Spain was so amazing but going from sunny Spain to rainy England…not so amazing. We stayed in a hotel called Palmasol which was lovely, the pool/garden area was amazing and the outside of the hotel was covered with flowers and bushes. The only downfall to the hotel was the food there- there were lots and lots….and lots and lots of meat! And because I am a vegetarian I basically lived off bread, chips, pasta, and salad. However, there were lots for me to eat at breakfast! I definitely miss having pancakes, churros, and chocolate for breakfast! I hadn’t been swimming in years so the highlight of the whole hotel was being able to swim in the pool (I also did swim in the sea but we all know there is a difference). I loved walking around all of the beach shops although I didn’t buy too much and I miss eating coconut ice cream on the beach!
Anyway, on holiday I did what the majority of people do on holiday such as drink cocktails, swim in the pool, sunbathe, go to the beach etc. So I am only going to talk about the things which aren’t the obvious.
This is a massive park which includes a range of different things for you to see and do. There is a massive lake which is a gorgeous green colour. Normally I just see ducks and fish at the park however in this lake there were also little turtles swimming around which was a nice surprise! Walking around the park with you are chickens and peacocks who did not seem afraid of humans at all! There was a little farm which had goats and donkeys. We only went to see the donkeys. I read that these donkeys had previously been mistreated and have been rescued and came to this park for a better life. I really enjoyed seeing all of the different types of cacti, as you can see from the pictures there were really big ones! The highlight of coming to this park was seeing little lizards running around the cacti. You can easily spend hours at this park as there is lots to do and lots to see. But we didn’t spend too long on there, we took a packed lunch and sat on the grass for a couple hours, it was really nice and the weather was lovely. There was a park for children to play on and lots of open space. There was also a cafe, the only disappointment was that the toilets were out of order. This park was easy to find, free entry and wasn’t too crowded!
This beautiful red building is called Castillo Bil-Bil. I know it looks like it is a very old building, it is, but maybe not as old as you think. It was built in the 1920’s and was originally a private residence. Today, the building is used for conferences, exhibitions, concerts, and weddings. Castillo Bil-Bil is Benalmadena’s most iconic landmarks and I am glad I got to go and see it. The patterns on the building were so beautiful, I loved the interior. Outside of the building, they have stunning water features and palm trees. I wish I got to see the building at night because I think it would have looked stunning. Not much to say about this building, you couldn’t go inside but looking at how pretty it was is good enough for me!
Teleferico Cable Cars-
First time going on cable cars was an experience. We caught a tour bus to the location, the cable cars go up to a mountain. I loved going on the open top tour bus because the breeze was lovely and just what I needed because it was so hot. The cable cars were a lot faster than I imagined but the views were amazing. It didn’t cost much and the journey took 15 mins to get there and 15 mins to get back down. The only downfall was we went straight over a busy road which was a little scary. I would definitely do this again.
At the other end of the cable car was Mount Calamorro. There were activities to do there such as a free Bird Of Prey show where they had birds from Eagles to Owls to Hawks to Vultures. It was interesting to see all of the birds however I couldn’t help wonder about how the birds have been trained and how much freedom they get. In the show, the birds would jump on peoples shoulders (because the guy put food there) and fly up in the sky for ages. Hopefully, there is no animal cruelty involved and hopefully, it is ethical. Mount Calamorro is the 3rd Mountain I have climbed (although I only climbed a tiny bit of it because of the cable car) however! I was still out of breath when I reached the top! The views were amazing and the first thing I notice at the top of the mountain was that there were so many butterflies. I definitely wore the wrong outfit though, I will never make the mistake of wearing a skirt and sandals for walking up a mountain again.
The cloudiest day of the whole holiday and we decided to go on a boat trip! We went on a Catamaran, I can’t remember the name of the boat but it was very nice. The weather was still hot, the sky and sea were just a bit grey but that didn’t stop us from having a good time! Originally the plan was to be able to jump off the Catamaran into the sea, but we got told we weren’t able to do this because the sea was too rough that day. We were hoping we would also see dolphins but we didn’t. The sea was defiantly rough though, we got splashed so much by the waves. I have mixed feelings about my first boat ride, the views were amazing and it was fun but did start to feel a bit sick. The waves were so rough it made your belly go as if you were on a fair ride. On the boat trip, we got free Sangria which I couldn’t finish because all that water and made me need to toilet! By the end of the boat trip, I was very wet because I got splashed so much. Overall it was fun and glad I did it! Next time hopefully I will see some dolphins.
Beach Sunset-One of my holiday highlights was sitting on the beach in the evening and watching the sunset. The picture above wasn’t taken on the beach but this is what the sunset looked like. Watching the sea change colour was amazing, we stayed on the beach drinking alcoholic slushies until it got dark.
Overall, I had the best holiday and below are some pictures I took! I would deffo recommend going to Benalmadena! If you wanna see more pictures(probs not) but follow my Photography Instagram @shars_photography
